Hawaiian Wagyu Burger

This recipe is for a delicious Hawaiian Burger that can be easily made at home. The burger is made up of layers of green leaf lettuce, ground beef patties, melted cheese, grilled pineapple rings, and a homemade teriyaki sauce. It is a perfect copycat of a restaurant favorite that I like to serve with homemade french fries and a refreshing drink.

Ingredients:

1 cup water

¼ cup soy sauce

¼ cup light brown sugar (packed)

2 tablespoons honey

2 tablespoons sesame seeds (toasted, optional)

1 teaspoon fresh ginger (grated, optional)

½ teaspoon garlic powder

2 tablespoons cornstarch (mixed with ¼ cup cold water)

1 package Back Creek Wagyu Steak Burger

½ teaspoon sesame seed oil

½ teaspoon each, salt & pepper (or to taste)

½ teaspoon paprika (optional but recommended)

4 brioche buns (toasted or grilled)

8 rings pineapple (2 slices per burger, fresh or canned, grilled)

4 slices provolone cheese (or cheddar cheese)

8 leaves green leaf lettuce (rinsed & pat dry)

Ginger Sesame Teriyaki Sauce

Combine water, soy sauce, light brown sugar, honey, toasted sesame seeds, ginger, and garlic powder in a medium saucepan. Heat to medium high, combine cornstarch with coldwater and add to the sauce. Cook on medium high until a slow boil is reached, reduce heat ifnecessary. Cook until the sauce thickens (you can add more water to thin the sauce if it thickens too fast if needed). Remove from heat and allow to cool to warm at room temperature, about 15 minutes.

Wagyu Burger

  1. Add sesame seed oil to Back Creek Steak Burger Patties (6 oz each). Toast or grill brioche or hamburger buns until golden brown, if desired. Grill pineapple, just enough to heat the pineapple and leave grill marks.

  2. Heat your grill, a large skillet or frying pan to medium high. Season the 4 Wagyu beef patties with salt, pepper, and paprika (optional). Place the seasoned side facing down into the heated grill, skillet, or frying pan (they should sizzle upon contact). Repeat seasoning on the upward-facing side of the patties. Cook the burgers for 3-4 minutes, then fl ip the burger whenthe bottom has a nicely browned coloring. Cook the second side for 4-5 minutes, adding the cheese slices in the last minute of cooking. Close the grill lid, or cover the skillet or frying pan with a lid if the cheese is not melting.

  3. While the burgers are cooking, place green leaf lettuce on the bottom half of the buns. Whenthe burger patties are finished cooking, place them onto the bun and lettuce, top with grilledpineapple and drizzle with some of the teriyaki. Add the bun top and serve with any additional condiments or toppings desired.
